My wife and I have been in the restaurant industry for over 24 years. We started small with a little deli on Geary Street in San Francisco, then moved on to a pizza place on Market Street. From there, we ran a Tex-Mex spot on North Street in Nacogdoches, and now, here we are with Chai Shai. Each of these chapters taught us something new and gave us opportunities to grow, and for that, we’re grateful.
The story of Chai Shai really began about 10 years ago when we first made Sugar Land our home. With my background in culinary arts and our shared love for food and people, my wife and I realized that running a restaurant wasn’t just a job, it was something we were made for. We’d always enjoyed hosting big gatherings for friends and family, serving hearty home cooked meals, and creating memorable experiences.
In the past, much of our work was behind the scenes, managing, planning, and making sure things ran smoothly. But with Chai Shai, we wanted something more personal and unique. Every dish on our menu is made from scratch, and the atmosphere you feel when you walk in comes from my wife’s creative touch, her love for truck art, cricket, Sufism, and the Wabi-Sabi spirit.
It’s this mix of culture, food, and design that makes Chai Shai special. Our non traditional menu and inviting décor have built a loyal community of fans not just in Houston, but beyond.
And about the name “Chai Shai by Al Habib” there’s a fun little story. My wife always loved the name “Chai Shai,” and my friends have always called me Al-Habib. We simply put the two together, and the rest is history.

We use only the freshest and highest-quality ingredients in our dishes. Our spices are sourced directly from Pakistan, and we use locally-sourced ZABIHA halal meats and organic produce whenever possible to support our community and reduce our environmental impact.
